I’ve used a lot of RC helicopters. They’re fun to fly and they can be a source of involved or mindless entertainment, depending how much you put into it. Finding a good RC helicopter can be difficult, though. There are a lot of cheap models out there that are just a pain to fly. Fortunately, that hasn’t been the case for me with the Syma S107G remote control helicopter.

In the looks department, the Syma S107G helicopter doesn’t look radically different from other RC helicopter offerings. It’s of a typical size, probably about ten inches in length. It has a sleek front end; the nose is very angled and almost comes to a point. It’s a good look, and you can tell the S107G remote control helicopter apart from other offerings in the same category without it looking totally out of place. The real story, though, is in how the S107G handles.

Anyone who’s ever used an RC helicopter knows about trim. If you’ve never used one, but know someone who has, chances are you’ve still heard of it. Adjusting the trim is annoying. After a few flights, most cheap RC helicopters will start spinning wildly out of control. Every time I use one, it makes me regret my purchase. The trim buttons can correct this erratic behavior, but it’s a nuisance nonetheless. The Syma S107G helicopter has trim controls, but I’ve used the model for a couple of days and still haven’t had to adjust the trim once. It just works. And this is really true for the entire flying experience with the S107. Whatever you’re trying to do, it works. I’ve flown it through my apartment a few times, flying around the cat’s bed and through the kitchen. My apartment has very narrow doors, and with other helicopters I’ve typically crashed into the wall a few times. The S107G handles like a dream though, with no accidents so far. To be honest, that’s amazing. I like RC helicopters. That doesn’t mean I’m good at flying them.

Beyond the flight experience, I’m happy to report that the rest of the S107 experience has been very pleasing. The company advertises that a 30-minute charge will give you around 10 minutes of flight time. I’ve gotten close to 15 minutes in all of my flights. That might degrade over time, but so far I’ve been thrilled with the battery life I’m getting out of it. I also like that the Syma S107G helicopter includes USB charging. A lot of RC helicopters I’ve used have only been able to charge by docking to the remote. The S107G includes both methods, and charging through USB is typically just more convenient for me.

Overall, I highly recommend the Syma S107G to anyone who wants a quality helicopter that will control like it’s supposed to. It’s both fun and relaxing to fly, and the performance has actually exceeded what I hoped to get out of it. A great buy for anyone looking for a remote control helicopter.

The DH 9053 Volitation 3.5 Channel Outdoor Metal Gyro RC Helicopter is very well built and sturdy. It comes fully assembled with everything needed to start flying right away, except the 8 AA alkaline batteries for the remote controller. It takes about 3 hours to fully charge which gives 10 minutes of flight time. The DH 9053 helicopter measures 26 x 21 x 10 inches and weighs 1.2 pounds. It has 3.5 channels instead of the more common 3 channels. The 3.5 channels not only lets it fly in all the usual directions, but also gives control over the speed, going from low to high.

The durability of the DH 9053 rc helicopter is very impressive. After numerous crashes, there may be a few dents in the rotors but this does not affect the ability to fly. The balance bar can be bent in a crash, but it can also be easily bent back. This is actually a good thing since some of the more expensive outdoor rc helicopters have rotors that shatter with crashes. It’s a smart idea to buy a full set of replacement parts. This helicopter is tough, but there are some breakable parts like the blade holders. The parts don’t cost much so buy a good supply.

The fly-bar often hits when the helicopter is throttled down too fast. By reversing the shaft, there is more room between the blades and this keeps the fly-bar from hitting. The helicopter seems to be tail-heavy, so flying forward is almost impossible, even with no wind. This can easily be fixed by super-gluing one or two small round magnets to the underside of the front canopy. Replacing the battery with a larger one, like a 15c 7.4v 3000mah, increases the weight in the nose and helps overall to keep the helicopter from being pushed around by the slightest wind.

These modification and repair parts are cheap, simple to do and give a much better flying experience. More expensive outdoor rc helicopters may fly better right out of the box, but the cost of maintaining them far outweighs the initial investment and adjustments to make the DH 9053 helicopter just as good.

The Syma S102G Mini Black Hawk Gyro Helicopter is one of the most interesting toys I’ve had my hands on this year. It is listed as a toy, for children eight years old and up, but the black hawk rc helicopter is also the gift I am giving to a few of the gentlemen on my gift list.

At eight and a half inches long, the Syma s102g helicopter’s small size makes it deceptively fragile, but it’s the light weight of this helicopter that makes it hold up no matter what I put it through. A charge of about 30 minutes gave me about five minutes flight time. It would be nice to have a longer lasting battery, but it wasn’t disappointing. The controls offer a full range of motion. The helicopter can move forward, backward, up or down as well as rotate in clockwise and counter-clockwise directions. The gyro keeps the black hawk rc helicopter really stable as long as air currents don’t interfere.

The fuselage of the Syma s102g helicopter is finished in intricate detail, including flashing LED lights. It looks great flying in low light situations. The easy to use controls, I can get around all kinds of indoor obstacles without causing massive destruction. Good controls are a plus for indoor flying if I don’t want to break anything.

Outside, the black hawk rc helicopter is a little bit light for breezy days. The mini black hawk hovers beautifully indoors, with a little bit of sway due to air currents from my ventilation system, but outside it is all over the place. I want to try it again when there is less wind to bother the black hawk. It was able to climb pretty high compared to other mini helicopters I’ve tried. I did not make the advertised 30 feet, but there was too much wind to test it reliably. Inside, I had no problems, so I believe it will make the 30 foot climb next time I have it outside. Crashes outside were a lot less devastating than crashes I’ve had with other helicopters. No broken or missing parts are a definite plus.

The Syma s102g helicopter is not the fastest rc helicopter on the market, but the slower speed combined with the flight stability makes it ideal for a beginner. It is small enough to take along on short trips to the park. I can easily see it in the hands or a child or as the center piece of a nice family outing. Collectors will love the detail on this helicopter. The s102g surpasses the more toy-like s102 in that regard. I think the Syma black hawk will be one of the more popular gifts I give this year.

RC helicopters are fun to fly, but sometimes the designs can come off as being a little uninspired. A lot of the cheap ones look alike, with nothing to really differentiate them from the pack. Enter the Syma s022 helicopter, a beast of an RC helicopter and one that features the iconic Chinook design. Even if you’ve never heard of a Chinook, you know what they look like. They’re the long green helicopters with two propellers that you’ve seen in war footage, video games or movies. Chinooks look like tanks that can fly, so I was delighted to get to play with a Chinook RC helicopter.

Out of the box, what really impressed me Chinook is that it mirrors the design of the real Chinooks extremely well. The size of the Syma s022 helicopter is in proper proportion to other RC helicopters when you consider how big a real Chinook is compared to real helicopters. The Chinook RC helicopter is also accurately modeled and painted. It sports a tone of green that is accurate to what the real helicopters have, and the engines are appropriately colored as well. It even has the same cockpit and four additional windows that the real thing has.

As far as performance, I can’t say I’m dissatisfied. The real versions of these things are used to move troops and help supply them during battles. As such, you kind of expect them to be durable. And based on their appearance, you’d just get the impression that they are. Traits like these don’t always transfer over to RC models, but the Chinook RC helicopter is definitely as durable as an RC helicopter can get. I’m not an awful pilot, but I definitely put my RC helicopters to the task. I’ve slammed the Chinook into walls several times so far just navigating through my apartment and being careless. It hasn’t flinched. Everything is still intact with the helicopter, and I haven’t even had to adjust the trim afterward.

I don’t have any serious complaints for the Syma s022 helicopter. Controlling it is a little more difficult than other models. It feels like it’s not as responsive, but I think that’s just my difficulty in adjusting to a larger helicopter. I’ve never flown one this big, so I don’t start turning as quickly as I should in most cases. Hence the crashes I’ve had. But all is well, I know I’m adjusting to flying a bigger chopper and I’m having a lot of fun doing it.

There’s not much more to say. The Syma s022 helicopter is a great one. It has a great design that’s true to the one it’s based on and it has a quality build. All things considered, it’s a great product. I’d recommend this helicopter to just about anybody, especially if they like the appearance of Chinooks.

As far as RC helicopters go, Syma has made some great ones in the past. The Syma S108G helicopter is another solid offering. At a little under nine inches long, this is one of the bulkier ones that I’ve flown. But how does this RC helicopter stack up to others?

Appearance is a big deal for a radio controlled helicopter. Half of the fun in flying an RC helicopter is in flying something that looks like a shrunken down version of a real life helicopter. The S108G is modeled after a Marine Cobra, and they’ve done a good job of replicating it. The color is accurate to most models of the real thing, employing a teal-blue color throughout. Details such as the cockpit and engine are fairly accurate as well. What really impressed me was the LED light on the front of this helicopter. A lot of RC helicopters have LED lights that are dim or just small. The S108G’s LED light is big, bright and ties together the chopper’s appearance.

As far as actually flying the helicopter, the S108G is fun to fly. It seems well built in the sense that it can hover and fly in a straight line without tilting from side to side or looking unbalanced. That being said, my one complaint about flight is that the sticks on the control unit are a bit more sensitive than I’ve grown accustomed to. That means that if you press up, this helicopter will fly up in a hurry. It was annoying at first, but anyone who’s flown a lot of helicopters will tell you that they all have learning curves to them. The sensitive controls just caught me off guard, but I have started to get used to it. Just try to avoid flying in narrow hallways or other small spaces when you first start flying it.

Beyond the helicopter itself, the S108G comes with a couple of things that I really appreciated. It has USB charging, as well as transmitter charging. You shouldn’t ever find yourself being unable to charge this thing. The S108G also comes with a spare rear rotor. This should be a given, but I’ve bought a lot of RC helicopters over the years that quickly made their way into the trash because a rotor broke and I didn’t have a spare.

The bottom line is that the S108G is a solid buy for both beginners and advanced hobbyists. It’s built well enough to hold up to the damage that beginners will inflict, and the mechanics are challenging enough for advanced pilots to have a good time. It’s hard to find a better helicopter at the S108G’s price level, and you won’t be disappointed once you own one.

Overall Rating:

The amazing difference between fun and overly complicated controls: gyros. One of the first generation of indoor RC helicopters came without gyros, meaning the controls were incredibly difficult, so it was impossible to have any sort of fun with it. However, this generation — in particular, the release of the Syma S109G helicopter — introduces a gyro, and it really takes the cake. The controls are much easier, and much more stable, without being boring.

Having said that, the helicopter does seem somewhat slow when I try to maneuver it, which was good as a starting point — it provides a necessary learning curve without difficulty — but once I became more proficient in steering it, the lesser speed of the helicopter can prove to be a little frustrating during certain maneuvers, such as dive bombing. Another maneuver that does take quite a bit of practice is initially taking off, especially due to a somewhat lower back wheel, causing takeoff to be much quicker than what I’m used to. This isn’t especially difficult, though.

Unlike other indoor RC helicopters, the Apache RC helicopter looks considerably more realistic than my other previous purchases. Other RC helicopters ended up looking too unrealistic, plastic-like and just generally not as spectacular as the Syma S109G helicopter. Even with the addition of solid and bright LED lights, added so that you can have an easier time flying it at night, the realism still works splendidly. This realism extends to the controls, which let you feel as close to flying a real helicopter as most people will ever get to experience.

Durability is another thing that this RC helicopter has going for it. In particular, it is definitely not the sort of device that breaks easily by any means. For example, I flew it inside my apartment a few months ago — a building with relatively tall ceilings — and managed to crash it at the top while trying to fly it too ambitiously. Subsequently, it dropped all the way to the ground pretty soundly, and it survived without much scathing. Even after that, this helicopter has been on hundreds of missions, very few of which had safe landings. One particular crash caused some chunks to snap off of the blades, but the helicopter continues to fly without issue.

One thing to keep in mind, however: Don’t try to fly it outdoors unless you have wide, open space, such as in a giant park. A breeze nearly caused my helicopter to hit the next building over.

Overall, the helicopter was a great purchase, and so recommending it would be a very easy task. Great controls, great realism and great durability all make for a great device.
